Not sure if this is in the right section, but here goes:
Hypothetical question: So I've heard that if the correct hard disk wiping software used in the correct way can delete data so that not even the CIA can retrieve afterwards, but say that a person has a computer which is "incriminating" and then on this "incriminating" computer he uses a Live CD to try out a new Linux distro or whatever or even a learning CD of some kind or piece of software. Then he takes it out and goes back to his original and "incriminating" OS. Then he does a full disk wipe.
If he were to use that Live CD again on his new and "innocent" computer, would it taint the computer with the memory of the "incriminating" OS. Plus, let's say he were to use an incriminating computer to actually download the Linux distro and burns it on his disk on the incriminating computer, does the wipe and then boots from the Live CD.
Can the "incriminating" data "poison" other media inadvertently in this way?
