In this guide I will show you how to install windows xp from a usb stick instead of a CD. There are many advantages of installing windows xp from a usb stick the most obvious one is that the install will run much faster from a USB stick compaired to a CD-ROM. Below is a list of things you will need to install windows xp from a usb stick.
This guide is much easier to follow and understand compaired to other guides as I am going to use a GUI (Graphical User Interface) whilst other guides you need to do manually through the command prompt.
Things you will need for installing windows xp from a usb stick
-USB Stick, 1GB or larger in size
-Windows XP CD
-WinSetupFromUSB Google it and download it
Follow the below steps which will enable you to install windows xp from a usb stick
1. First create a new folder on the root of your C: drive and call the folder "WINXP"
2. Now put your windows xp install disk in to your CD drive, now browse to the drive and copy all of the files on the CD to the C:\WINXP folder you created above
3. Download WinSetupFromUSB, install the program and then launch it using the icon on your desktop. Under "Windows 2000/XP/2003 Source" click browse and select C:\WINXP. Under "USB Disk Selection" make sure the correct USB drive is selected
4. We now need to format your usb stick. If you have any files on your usb stick make sure you back them up before formating your drive. If your usb stick is 2gb or smaller use PeToUSB to format your usb stick and make sure you select FAT16 file system. If your usb stick is larger than 2gb use HP tool and format with FAT32 file system.
5. When the format has completed go back to the main screen of WinSetupFromUSB and click the go button to start the copy of the windows xp install files to your usb stick. When the file copy has finished you will get two prompts, Click ok, you can then reboot your PC and install windows xp from a usb stick. Dont remove the usb stick until windows has been installed and you boot to the desktop for the first time
