Mechanic to mechanic, I think you're going to get a kick out of this.
This morning I went to leave in my car but my shifter did nothing, just flopped around. Under the hood I found this (pic one)
I took it off and went to check for the replacement grommet (pic two)
Found out that the bushing kit is $30. I thought no way so I'll make my own.
A 13/32 socket out of my $4 socket set is a perfect fit (pic three)
Dug around in my old toolbox and found a clip which is perfect to do the job (pic four)
Drilled out the socket for a fit (pic five)
Drilled through the socket where the groove will be and drilled out a rubber washer for a snug fit. (pic six)
And I'm back on the road! (pic seven)
I noticed that my shifter isn't as loose as it was so I guess the grommet was pretty worn out and came loose who knows where.
It's so much better now. All done by hand (no drill press). WHEW!
