Does computer techs at repair shops nose through your files. Like do they look in your Apple iPhone backups or nose through your personal files? Where a virus wouldn't be

Lol. Not if they are reputable. But I guess how would you know? Delete any content you don't want them to see before bringing it in. It's as simple as that.

Nope, not really, the only time they will nose is if you tell them, or they notice something abnormal during a scan, since file names are displayed during scans... If they see anything that could be potentially illegal, in some states, they are required to call police or be faced with being charged as an accessory to w/e crime could be committed.

If they have to go into "My Documents" to change something or delete a file, and notice a picture of a naked child or anything illegal, they wasn't snooping to begin with, and will be required to contact police.

Simple thing is this, don't do anything illegial on your computer, and you won't have worries. The shop isn't going to give a flip about your porn history, and isn't going to go looking through it, they do have more important things to do.

I wouldn't take those comments as read. Many people have been prosecuted because of what the repair man/woman has found on a computer. The only good bit of advice there was don't do anything illegal on your computer then you should be okay.

When I was doing my IT course, We were told not look through personal files and if we did come across something suspicious such as pornography we report straight to the helpdesk or teacher then the police were contacted. Rarely ever did it happen but has happened twice.

Any who I don't I leave my personal files on the drive itself. Straight onto my portable HDD..

99% of the time, no, they aren't going to peek through your documents, they could care less, unless they notice something suspicious while doing what ever on the machine.

Many people have been prosecuted because of what the repair man/woman has found on a computer.

A very small amount of people, a technician isn't going to spend an hour on a machine trying to find something that doesn't exist in most cases, especially if they are having to deal with hardware. Have worked at enough shops in my time that technicians can get in some trouble with the boss because it's cutting into profits, unless as I said, the technician noticed something suspicious.

So more than likely they wouldn't go in your appdata folder and take your iPhone Apple backup. I believe it is coded but you could get programs to decode it. I really don't have anything on my phone just bank info/ PayPal that's financial

If you don't have anything very private on it (like nudes) I wound't worry too much.
They have better things to do than looking through your wedding pictures or what have you.
I'll worry more about if he decides to format or reset the device.
As a rule of thumb you should always make sure you have an up to date backup before sending in your device.

If you want to split hairs help yourself. Many Some, a few, what's the difference. People have been prosecuted because of what has been found on their computers by the repair people. Even the OP says "more than likely they wont go into their app data folder" which means they might. On that note I'm out of here it's my opinion that illegal stuff MIGHT be found by the repair person there best not to risk it. No I am not accusing anyone of anything just saying.
