Cloud Storage Questions

This is sounding shady, is this for keeping pictures of "the victims" or something? porn stash?

You don't have to install the client at all, you can just sign in to google and use the online google drive "app" this is more like using traditional online storage.

all you'll have to do is clear your history and nobody would know that you'd been there

well, unfortunately there are people that cant afford their own place and don't have parents to live with. and even more unfortunately there are people who will stop at nothing to be nosy. even though I really don't have any files that would be that interesting for others to see, some of the political stuff could cause trouble if I lived in europe. but most are just basic stuff like writings, pictures and videos from over the years.

You could resort to a NAS box with cloud functions. I have a WD Mycloudmirror and I can access that anywhere. The admin control panel will let me put the system to sleep or turn it off if need be. My cloud account with WD is just a pointer for me to be able to hit my box even though I'm on a public or private network. It doesn't store any of my data on any system I'm on and just requires me to have the URL, ID, and password to the account. Then the box has its own ID and password. Very secure, very private.
I have Ccleaner on a thumb drive that runs off the drive. If I feel hinky I run that on the browser and it's all gone.

I understand your situation. I've lived with people before. My system then was like Fort Knox. Dual layer log on and web cam recording who was in my chair. Got in some major blow outs with my room mates. I got a cold water flat I could afford PDQ.
As for your geo political activities, that's your business. Just be aware that anything that is considered being terroristic will be turned over to the authorities.

Wow setishock , your roommates were actually trying to spy and tamper?
What did they have to say for themselves?

I'll look into the NAS box with cloud functions.sounds cool.

Based on the info I gained here, I am going to try the strategy of completely uninstalling google drive from my pc and using it online only mostly for safe and private storage as I mostly access my files from a flash drive.
That way if anything happens to my flash drives I can download my files from the google drive online cloud to some new flash drives.

When you have keystrokes and video evidence, not much they can say. Like I said I moved out pretty quick.

I have google drive now and have tested it by storing some pictures on it.
I have noticed that when you unsync all your folders any random person can turn it back on, how dose it even know to get back on YOUR accounts syncing?

I have also noticed that on your computer when you click the google drive icon then go to "preferences" then go to "account" there is a button that says "disconnect account".
what does "disconnect account" mean?
will this sanitize your computer of your gmail name? Will it make it so people cant re-sync your files from the sync folder?

Is there any way to completely remove google drive from your computer and completely sanitize your computer of any trace of your gmail name and files saved on google drive? While still using and storing on google drive online only?

can you access google drive only online?

Also what if you do go to a public library and for example view your files and or download them onto a flash drive? Once you logout and delete history will other people be able to see or access your files, account or see your gmail name on that computer?

I use Dropbox primarily but I understand they are very similar. The application on the PC pulls down files stored in the cloud. Disconnecting your account from that PC will not remove the files, it will only stop syncing. If you remove all of the files after disconnecting your account, you should be fine.

You can log into your google account via web browser and see your files in the cloud without downloading them or connecting to the PC. I do this all the time on Dropbox. (usually in an incognito window, to avoid leaving cookies)

downloading your files to a flash drive and logging out should be fine for at the library. Again, if they have Firefox or chrome on the computer, use an incognito window to further protect yourself. Google likes to leave evidence of your account in the form of cookies, to make login easier next time. Even though you'd still need the password to log back in, I prefer not to have my email address and face visible to the next person to sit down at the computer.
