Configuring mx records

Hello, can anyone tell me what mx records are? I have been trying to join some music websites and I keep getting a message saying:

Unable to register your account as your email address has no MX records configured...

How do I configure the mx records? I use hotmail/outlook for personnel email, and have a Sky broadband connection. This is driving me potty!

MX Records are DNS records that are pointers to mail servers which are able to receive and process your email. If you're using a hotmail account, you shouldn't have to worry about (and likely unable to make) any changes to your MX records config. I'm betting this error is an issue with the website you're trying to register on. I would contact their support on that.
