Need help with choosing power cable for GPU

For what it's worth I ran a GTX280 (pulling 40A) on a PSU that only supplied 36A on a single 12V rail using a six pin, then using a dual molex to 8 pin adapter, and it worked fine for ages. The only reason it's not working now is because I killed it with static! :D
 
Dude the card is an asus gtx 750 ti oc 2gb
It says clearly that it needs only 150 watt on the box.

Alright @setishock in case I change my psu then is it alright if I go for a cooler Master thunder 500 watt psu?

I run a Intel i5 4440, 8gb ddr3, one optical drive, one 1tb sata 3 hdd, and then this asus gtx 750 ti oc 2gb gpu. Plz suggest me if I can go for a cooler Master thunder 500 watt psu or should I go for something else..
