Why does free software exist?

I use a lot of free on my tablet and phone. I'm cautious about what goes on either one however. I read the end user agreement from top to bottom. If there's anything I don't like in it, I don't use it.

Sorry, but that's like a christian saying they've read the bible...

"Why does free software exist?"
My answer: If any software wasn't free, anonymous would have a fit.

Okay that was a little too far bud....

I'm not exactly "Christian" simply because that's too generalized term for it. But I stay close to the bible and I can honestly say ive read the entire thing to it's entirty at least once, and certain " books" i've read many times, I'm currently working through it again. Just because your lazy bones could never read the whole thing doesn't mean others don't ;) :whistling: :D

Not to wave my record, but I'm 18, and I've read and studied the bible in the three different translations.

That's pretty awesome. I started learning Hebrew, but only basic things so far. I first read the King James, but the last couple years i've been going by the Scriptures, which is supposed to be the most accurate translation in English from the original Hebrew that was written. I'd like to say i've read the whole thing 5 times, but I can't because i've gone past a book or two here and there, studying as I go in different areas per " Subject ". If anyone is at all interested ( Probably not :p ) I read the study the Torah for about 2 hours Thursday evenings and often Saturdays for a few hours. ( Also believe Sabbath is Saturday not Sunday, just how Constantine from the Catholic church changed it from Saturday to Sunday in 321 A.D.

:D Cheers lol.

My dad used to read the EULA's it annoyed the crap out of me.
Mostly because he'd ask for help installing something then spend half an hour wanting to read the EULA, whilst I just stood there waiting for him to press the button that said next...

he seemed to be worried that there might be some hidden instructions about how to install it properly hidden in there.

I sure don't read the 43 page EULA each time my iphone updates!!

why do people release free software?

Well I've released some free software for the following two reasons:
1, The market is specialised, I don't mean high end business specialised. I mean you have to want a specific thing specialised
(for example A cd player that was just a play, pause and skip forward button with no interface getting in the way so I could work without loosing any focus.)

2, to make the world a better place/help out like minded people
I've written software that would be commercially viable, but it's a long road, I have a day job and no interest in offering support.
if the result is clean/polished, works, and is useful, then why not just give it away and let someone else use it.

Other people may release software for the same reasons, or to package software that will display adverts and earn them money, package trojan virus to turn your PC into a zombie. package spyware...

of in the case of a lot of those phone games, to sell "in app purchases" like powerups etc to help you complete the game faster.
