I think (aka don't quote me on it), that gmail's site uses Java to function. Have you tried going to java.com to update java on your machine?

I think we can rule out routers and cache issues here as you imply that it starts off fast then slows down.

And for clarification, when you say "It is the only thing that runs slowly", do you mean gmail specifically or web pages in general?

Thank you, I'll try hiding the widget and checking if java needs updating as soon as I can and let you know if that works.
Also I was referring to only gmail as opposed to other webpages or programs
