I think RAM for video reserve only happens when you are using a GPU without VRAM.
As soon you put in a graphic card the reserve should automatically be disabled.

Depending on what programs you use is where you will see a difference. When I got my laptop last year it had 6GB installed (1x4GB & 1x2GB) and I decided to swap the 2GB for another 4GB to max it out to 8GB and I haven't really noticed a difference.
