Hello, I've been doing research since 2010, but gave up on the search because I did not have the sufficient funds. My grandpa gave me an old desktop which I can salvage a 750W Corsair Power Supply as well as the Case itself. The old desktop gave me motivation to finally work on a build of my own!

The problem is I have about $500 as my budget to buy: RAM, CPU, motherboard, GPU, and memory. I can only purchase the parts from Amazon.ca because I've been earning gift cards through surveys and online sites that only paid through Amazon.ca Gift Cards.

So far here is what I got,

SSD: (+ a 1TB external already own)

GPU:

RAM:

Motherboard:

CPU:

OS:
How do I get Windows 7?

*Am I missing anything????

Primarily, the machine will be for school work  , but I really was hoping to have the computer run CS:GO or League of Legends without lag (I don't even care if it's lowest graphics, as long as it's smooth and lag free)
~Hopefully someone can make adjustments to my build to lower it's cost and maximize it's performance.
-Much Thanks, Edwin

yeah get win 8. I find it better than Win7 IF you download a 3-party start menu and disable everything Metro/modernIU (or start as they call it now (they apparently have a hard time settling on a name for it). You know that stupid big screen with square icons all over the place.)

And if rumors are true, you will get a free upgrade to windows 10 when it comes out.

Ye all peripherals are set, now I'm just hoping for guidance on if all the parts are compatible and worth the value.

Is it possible not to pay for OS and obtain it? I don't think I can fit Win 8 or any OS in my budget afterwards...

Windows ANYTHING, I don't mind, as long as its free. Hoping there are other alternatives other than actually purchasing the OS, or trying Linux(too lazy and dumb to learn)

Unfortunately we can't help you obtaining free windows. We are not allowed to help with that. Even though i would like to. I use an unlicensed version of Windows 8 myself. Microsoft have lately proved them self sloppy when it comes to their OS releases.
windows 10 is gonna be what windows 8 should have been... even though i am still not impressed with the beta release of Windows 10. I payed for Windows 7 and i only found very few benefits in windows 8.
They don't deserve any more of my money. :p

If you want a legal free OS. Try Ubuntu(a linux OS) or Chrome OS.

About your hardware, It's all compatible. For the price it seems to be a good buy.

If you have an old machine that has an OEM Windows 7 licence sticker on it, there's nothing that will stop you using that to install windows.

You can download the Windows CD Images from Digital River, they are used by MS to distribute their software. Downloading the CD images is fine, it's having the license that determines whether the software is ligit or not. There's links on this page: How to Download Windows 7, 8, and 8.1 Installation Media — Legally

Strickly speaking, the OEM licence is not transfereable from one machine to another. But if the current machine that you have has a licence key, then strickly speaking, all you are doing is upgrading it - and that does allow you to continue using the license.

Btw, is it licence or license? It must be one of those Brit v US things...

I can't add anything to what connchri has put there!

Often you'll find that if you've purchased a machine from HP, Lenovo, or any company like that, the machine is actually activated on a bulk licence (as inputting manual product keys each time would waste time). As such, the licence on the machine isn't yet used, and in my opinion is perfectly legal to remove and place on another machine!

Often, product keys can be activated more than once (shh)

EDIT: As a Brit, I'm obliged to say it's licence! :D
