new laptop has trouble typing

I bought a new laptop with 8.1 and at times typing all is good. Then at other times I can type and letters are missing, no spaces etc. I can hit a letter 4-5 times and nothing, then all of a sudden they will all show up and typing will be fine for a while.

I've been told something is using all the memory. Possible?

Is there a program or something that will tell me what's this?

I have friends who have the same problem with their pc.

Any ideas?

Can you open the task manager (CTRL+ALT+DEL), switch to the tab that says "Performance", and take a screen shot of that for us? That will give us an idea of how much of your memory is being used. (There are other ways, this is simply the fastest for gaining the basic information to begin to make a judgement call.)

Does the attachment tell you anything? The only thing I notice is Disk 0 sometimes pegs out at 100%. Don't know what that means.

Well, this was a basic test to confirm that there is a problem, but yes it does tell me somthing. You have massive spikes in usage, which gives me good reason to look further.

I need you to download the program from here, and install it: Trend Micro HijackThis - Free download and software reviews - CNET Download.com

What I am going to ask you to do next, is click the button that says "Do a System Scan And Save A Log File". This process will only take a few seconds to complete, then it will open the log file in notepad.

Please note that this is not an antivirus program, and thus, you should not delete anything that it finds without one of us telling you to.

Please paste what it displays in notepad here. Just copy the entire contents of the text, and paste it into the reply box, so that it can be analyzed.

That will give us a better idea of what is going on to cause these performance spikes.

Ok I did what you said and I got this message. I tried uploading the log file but it won't let me so I copied an pasted it here.

Ok, so my initial check with this was to look for any possible infections, which I have not found. However, I do want to do one final check to be sure.
So, the next step is to do a very essential scan.
Please follow these instructions precisely.

I need you to download a program called ComboFix, but do not run it yet. Combofix can be found here: ComboFix Download

For right now, we are going to uninstall Avast. Dont worrie, I will have you reinstall it in a few steps.

Once the uninstall completes, and you have restarted your computer, I need you to restart your computer again, only this time boot into "Safemode with Networking". Instructions can be found here if you need them: How to start Windows in Safe Mode or Safe Mode with Networking - ESET Knowledgebase

Once you are in Safemode With Networking, please make sure that you still have an internet connection. If not, you could have selected the wrong option so please try again. If that still doesnt work, please stop what you are doing, and let us know. If you do have a connection, then we continue.

Please run the Combofix file that you downloaded earler. Not only will it do a complete (and very deep) scan, but it too will produce a log file. Please do not do anything until the scan has completed.

When it shows you the log file, I would like you to paste that log file here, along with another screen shot from your preformance moniter.

I will let you know when to reinstall Avast. Until we get to that point, you are going to be largely unprotected, so please be careful where you visit online, and use another device for browsing if at all possible.

Thank you for being so patiant. I know this process can seem long (the cleanup process of your system will take longer...), but the results should be worth it in the end.

All of this effort will also tell me if it is software or hardware related. I noticed that your disk read/write speeds are very low. So we will want to look into that as well. But first, lets stick to the software and see if a solution comes out of that.

Ok. one question first. I noticed that combofix does not list 8.1 that it can be used on.

I just noticed on the combo fix site that it does not work on 8.1 at this time.
