Evening all,

Just installed and cloned my old HDD onto a Kingston Hyper-X SSD. I was expecting this to read a cool 7.9 on WEI. I know that WEI is about as rubbish and pointless as a benchmark can be, but it's the best way I currently have of comparing this to my old HDD. My old 7200RPM caviar HDD used to read 5.9, and some cheaper Kingson SSDNow SSDs I've used at work always read out 7.9 on WEI. MY new SSD is reading 7.7/8 depending on which SATA port I use.

I'm thinking it could be down to the SATA cables I'm using. They're old enough that I don't actually remember where I got them from. Do you guys think it's worth buying some definitely, 100% SATA III certified cables?

Not sure, but I think different SATA generations have their own cables (in speed not physically). And make sure you're using a SATA port that uses the best chipset on the motherboard as secondary chipsets give less performance!
