I bought an AMD Athlon II processor and was wondering if the mobo will be compatible and use the full capacity of this processor. It's a 3.4 dual core.
I already installed it but haven't plugged in my PC because the last processor short circuited. My computer has been lying around for a while without its power cord. I hope dearly this processor is the silver bullet to revive my good old acer! Once I get that power cord a la manana. Also are pci 16x 2.0 graphic cards also compatible with this mobo? Thanks in advance.

The processor is AMD Athlon II X2 270.
The mobo is am2 and the processor am2+/am3.
I hope it won't need a bios update, I've never done that before.
I'll let you guys know how it turns out tomorrow!

Hello friends,
I plugged in my PC with the new processor and the computer powers but there is no beep signal, the mobo is just silent. No image on the screen. Does this mean the processor is incompatible. What about a bios update?

That motherboard won't work if it's only AM2. You need an AM2+/AM3 motherboard.

Ok, so it turns out I brought my PC to a specialist and it was the power supply that was unstable. Had to buy a new one and on top of that like the last post mentioned my new CPU is not AM2 so even a bios update wouldn't help. The good news is that the processor I had before had nothing wrong with it and my good old acer is running again!
Thanks for helping out!
