Intel core i5 overclocking

Hi, what are the advantages to overclocking on intel core 15 and what are the disadvantages thanks.

Advantage: more free performance.

Disadvantages: more heat
More power used (possibly)
Can lead to shorter component life.
If you get it wrong you have an interesting looking door stop.
And I'm sure there are more for both advantages and disadvantages.

What version of the i5 have you got. It has to be the K version which is unlocked to be able to overclock.

Everything you listed is general for overclocking anything, even GPUs

lifespan is only reduced with heavy overclocking. Not lite or medium overclocking with a proper cooler.

The other disadvantage are true though.

Well not really. Intel have a special warranty for overclocking. So if you do dry anything phone them up and they send new parts.

I will say that you will have to research this first as I don't know that much about it.
