And how do I install my psu?

  1. Unplug all power cables
  2. Screw all the screws out from the back of the PSU
  3. Place the new PSU in the case and secure it with screws
  4. Connect all the new cables

It isn't that difficult

But don't different components need different power?

And couldn't I get 16gb of ram to future proof or is that a waste of money?

Not different power. It's all ether DC or AC. There is Different volts however. But let the psu handle that. Just plug in the correct cable to the correct part. easy. It won't go in unless it's the correct cable.

More then 8gb for your use is waste of money.
16 and up is only for servers and people working with virtual machines... and a few other things.

So say my computer needed 400w of power and I had a 600W psu would it fry the components

Does the power rating (500W) mean it's maximum power?

That is worded so baby sorry

Yeah It's the maximum output it can deliver.
Some good PSU's can actually go higher. but the companies choose to label it slightly lower because of validation.
Example my AX760 can go higher then 760W, but if corsair stated it to be capable of 850W, they had to validate it gold instead of the awesome platinum validation.
