xp ugrading to windows 7

i have windows xp installed but want to upgrade to windows 7 can this be done without losing anything from my current system

You cannot do an "in place" upgrade of XP to Win 7. You need to backup all of your data, do a clean install of Win 7, then restore your data and re-install all of your programs.

Easiest thing to do is to utilize the Windows Easy Transfer that is included with the Windows 7 DVD.

Very much so.

However, Windows Easy Transfer still requires that you will need to re-install all of your programs. I personally don't consider Windows Easy Transfer to be particularly useful.

I prefer doing a clean install of the OS like Strollin said. Before doing so make sure that your programs and drivers are compatible with Windows 7.

There is a way that you can setup a dualboot with XP and 7 provided you have a big enough hard drive to partition How to dual boot Windows XP and Windows 7 (XP installed first)

wow i have a spare hard drive on the system 232gb the drive in use is 149gb 73gb left
