Just another: why is my computer freezing thread.

I have a i7 ES running at 2.5 GHz.
Gigabyte motherboard
Corsair 750 Watt PS
Corsair DDR3 RAM
Old Ati 4680 video card, which I hope is the problem not the engineering sample CPU.
I use this video card because it has after-market heat sinks and fan and is therefore very quiet and doesn't generate much heat (~44 watt at max load).

I looked up the errors before somewhere in windows, but I forget where. They didn't mean much to me, which isn't surprising I will try to look them up again. My computer seems to be freezing more and more so I'm trying to solve this problem.

what do you mean by freezing? bsod or locks up then comes back, locks up and have to hard reset?

what are doing when it freezes?

Both.
Been getting more regular freezing, no BSOD, or all freezing (maybe) since the hard drive failed and I replaced it.

It happens when the computer is doing nothing a lot of the time.
