Photo recovery

I have a xp system that I am working on for a friend. The hd is corrupt and unreadable but he wants his photos recovered if possible before I reinstall the o/s. What is some of the better software on the market for recovering data? I have icare data recovery free version installed but need to purchase one the full versions to recover over 10 files. I also have access to WinHex w/o key. Thanks for any advice or suggestions.

There is a boot cd called hirens boot cd, you can boot mini windows xp, and are able to recover files from your hd, not sure if that's what your looking for but good luck.

looks pretty good, can it be downloaded on line from their website or is it an ISO file? The other downloads I see were malicious. Thanks.

Yeah it can its download as an iOS image you just got to burn it and boot up from it, that boot cd comes real handy let me know how it goes.
