Hey everyone!

It's been a LONG time since I've posted here (about 3 years), but I know this it the place to go for help with new builds!

One of my friends wants to build a basic gaming computer for ~$500.

She wants to be able to handle League of Legends, which isn't TOO taxing and the Sims 3. I run an (ancient) Core2Duo with a ATi 4850 and can get 60fps on League of Legends, if that helps at all.

She'd need:
  • Case
  • Motherboard
  • Ram
  • GPU
  • HDD

I'd greatly prefer quality brands.

this is probably overkill for what you've outlined it would be used for, but i i was building a pc this is the min spec id go for if i had little cash.

Case

Mobo

CPU

gpu GPU

psu PSU

mem

hdd

This comes to $623 so she'll need to save some more cash. lol

Im assuming she doesnt need an OS or DVD drive?

Thanks for the posts!

I have a spare DVD Drive and she gets Win8 for free from her college so I'm set with those.

@Biker, what would 1 step up be? I have no idea what sort of hierarchy exists with GPUs or CPUs anymore considering I built my rig in 2008.

The 7770 is 1 step up from that 7750 ja6on suggested.
the 7000 series of AMD radeon cards goes like this: 7750 -> 7770 -> 7850 -> 7870 -> 7950 -> 7970 -> 7990

Awesome, any chance you can tell me where the 4850 stands in comparison to those cards?

the 4850 is a higher rank than the 7770, but it's also from an older series.
it's properly not gonna be better then the 7770.

Awesome, I just wanted to know some sort of comparison!

This looks like a solid build with solid parts.

With rebates it comes to $499, but she still need a monitor so we'll be looking for deals on that.

Thanks a ton!
