How to tell if a cpu cooler is good?

I'm building a computer I got most of the essentials for it. I was wondering how to tell if a CPU cooler is good from different ones? Is the fan speed or something? I was wondering if my X6 Elite by cooler master was good for gaming and keeping its "cool".Hope I make sense XD

Thanks but I Haven't put the cooler in I was just wondering if there was a way to tell if there was something better or without putting it in but this will work if I put it in.
