Earthing An Anti Static Mat

You went through all that just to change a cd drive

No it wasn't just for a CD drive it was the whole thing. Bought a new case.

And I only used the mat to put the motherboard GPU etc on while removing the rest of the components.

But I have a white case with black parts and the cream CD drive looks out of place.

Fair enough. Right now, I've got a computer reloading so I had to take the video card out:

1. stood on my metal chair to remove it
2. put metal side of pc1 onto the top of pc2, which has a metal side as well and is turned on
3. put vid card on top of the side of pc1 (which, let me remind you again, is the one sitting on another metal case while it's turned on)




Just wanted to illustrate why I consider it over-cautious, but again cheers to you for taking the time to do the extra steps.

Well I just like to make sure.

But as the only spave I have is carpeted I thought it was,a wise choice.

The box from the new tower was very useful in seperating me from the carpet though.
