Upgrade Help

Here's the deal. I built a computer back in 2008 with some money I had incidentally bumped into, although I still wasn't well employed. Because I had no real employment my computer never got updated even though I very much wanted to, and now I'm sitting on a sluggish, five year old computer that's struggling to run some modern games.

Now I'm well employed and have some money to play around with, and I was wondering if I should try and upgrade this thing or call it quits and start from the ground up again? So, for the general spec overview:

If you need any specific specifications let me know and I'll get them for you. Do you guys think this is worth upgrading or not, and if so where should I even start?

What parts are you looking to upgrade, I would say a new GPU and ram for starters and then maybe a CPU.

I have found you motherboard specs GIGABYTE - Motherboard - Socket 775 - GA-EP45-UD3L (rev. 1.1), and your motherboard won't be able to get a new CPU. In terms of Ram you motherboard can only take up to 16GB which you wouldn't need that much for gaming, G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model F2-8500CL5D-4GBPK - Newegg.com.

I'm at work, and that site is blocked (file-sharing) so I can't see the specs. But in general a PC built in 2008 (5 years ago) isn't worth upgrading. What kind of budget do you have?
