Find Software (Virtual Windows in CD/DVD)

My computer recently cannot boot and was sent to a technician. My computer operating system is Windows 7 Ultimate.

I saw him boot an "unknown bootable disc" with my DVD Rom. After booted, he runs in a windows XP Operating System which he can

cut, copy, and backup all my files. It just looks like a virtual windows XP in that disc.
I would like to know what kind of software he is using?
