I've upgraded several D830 laptops to Win7. After doing so, the DVD drive will not recoginize that there is a CD/DVD in the drive. It does not spin when I put it in and if I try to click on the DVD icon in My Computer, it ejects and asks 'to insert media'. Any thoughts?

Turns out the first 3 on the cart of 20 had bad cd drives. The rest worked fine.

I don't have much of an Idea but it looks like a old model so maybe Win7 is a bit "Faulty" on the motherboard

P.s don't take my word for it

Nah that wouldn't be the problem if the rest of them installed ok.
However that model is discontinued by Dell so I'd be thinking about how to do a mass transfer of the data off them in case the company gets a wild hair to upgrade.

Ya, it's just bad hardware. I work for a school system - the one and only IT Guy - so I know the students handle stuff to rough. There is no data on them that needs saved, plus there are no plans to upgrade ;)
