Win 7 HP can't serve as a host for Remote Desktop but it can certainly function as a client.

There are quite a few different packages out there that will allow you to setup a Win 7 HP system as a host for remote connection such as VNC, TeamViewer, LogMeIn and others.

I tried using the Remote Desktop client but didn't get it going :/

It depends on the license you have.

If you only have 1 license then I'd be tempted to save it for a new build as using a whole license for just a couple of extra features might be a little wasteful.
