Hello to all, I thought I would go for it and save myself a few pounds, instead of taking my desktop to the local shop, I would have a go of repairing it myself. I got a new cd drive from CEX for a £10, then opened the computer up only to find that the bloody plug is different. Should I buy a new cable, or can I buy an adapter? Or have I been ripped off by cex? Thanks in advance.

Hi Truebrit

Please define (plug) ?

If this is the drive you bought the interface is IDE

you can do either an adpater is £19.99 from maplin which would code more than the cable just buy the correct cable for the cd drive assuming your computer excepts that connection otherwise you will need to buy the converter like I did.
well I brought it to do computer repairs with at the time IDE was king not not sata.
Kind Regards

It appears the CD Drive is SATA. The cable there is IDE. You will need to check the motherboard of the computer and make sure you have a SATA port on it. Otherwise you'll need to get an adapter to go from SATA to IDE.
