Windows XP reboot loop

Got a friends machine coming to me later today when he pops over. It is constantly rebooting before the login screen even in safe mode.

To get this issue resolved the fastest what would be the best next step to take ?

Disconnect the hard drive and see if it boots to the point of saying missing operating system, at least this will give you a starting point whether it is hardware or software.

Power supply.
Take ram out and see if it give you beep errors.
Back up data and reload. (this is my guess - that it's probably software related- if it's doing it at the same point of startup everytime).

Its time for an upgrade to 7 for this machine

just backing stuff up then installing 7

Was you successful in fixing the problem?

Yes. I did a windows 7 fresh install. OS was too corrupted to even do a xp repair install.
