Will a laptop ever replace the desktop pc ??

I was thinking yesterday could laptops replace the desktop pc since hardware is getting smaller and more powerful what do u guys think ??

Yes, they could.

They don't because of space + heat issues. Not impossible, just not available to the public yet.

Once they decide to let us in on the asynchronous technology, space and heating issues are going to be moot.

Funny thing about technology, what was thought impossible just a few years ago is commonplace today.

20 years ago, how many would have believed that today we would have devices that are more powerful than the desktop computers of that period that we carry in our pockets? The smartphone of today has a screen with better resolution, faster cpu, faster GPU, more RAM, more storage space and is more "connected" to the rest of the world than the desktop computers back then.

Will the desktop computer ever go away and be completely replaced? That's hard to say but if the "cloud" were ever completely implemented, all of us would most likely have only "terminal" type devices that only displayed whatever the cloud delivered. All processing and storage would be done in the "cloud" similar to the mainframe model. In that situation, a desktop vs laptop argument would become a moot point.
