Is it worth it to upgrade the ram Insiporn 531s

I have a Dell Inspiron 531s with 1.50GB
I would like to upgrade it close to the max and I did found out it can take 1GB per slot and it has 4.

How much ram can I put without worrying about power supply or something else being affected?
Also, can you guys recommend what type of RAM should I buy?

Sorry again but just before I do anything stupid and buy the following
Dell Owner's manual for this pc says
Memory:
667-MHz, 800-MHz DDR2 SDRAM

This means I can buy any ram in the
6670MHz DDR2 or 800MHz DDR2 correct?

Memory is often tricky when it comes to compatibility.

It is never a good idea to mix different manufacturers of RAM, and different timings.

If I were upgrading that computer, I'd get 4 sticks of new memory, all the same. I'd also purchase only from well known vendors, known for their quality and consistency, like this...

Stick with Kingston, Mushkin, Corsair, G.Skill & Crucial. These are names you can trust, and stay away from "value" ram, it's not worth the few dollars you save.

There is nothing that can cause more havoc in a computer than flaky memory.

I have to disagree with you on the Mushkin RAM. I used 3 sticks of their RAM in a build for a customer and within a year, all three failed.

I've had good luck with the others and I swear by G.Skill.
