Hi, all,

I wonder if someone could please help me. I'm trying to update Windows 7 64 bit to service pack 1, but it keeps failing with error message, 80073712.

Thanks,

Chuck

Thanks, but nothing seems to help it just craps out with "update failed" and that error message.

Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Chuck

Did you try restarting the computer before applying the update?

Thanks everyone. Unfortunately nothing seems to work.
I was getting obscure errors like iTunes not being able to start
Mobile service, and NOD32 not being able to communicate with
the kernel. So I got a new hard disc and restored my original
Windows. I was doing all the updates when it would not complete
Service Pack 1. It's an HP machine.
Any further suggestions would be great. If not, I have a great 30 lb
paper weight.
Thanks,
Chuck

Run a chkdsk on the drive.

Thanks, it's a brand new hard drive. I'm going to try one more thing. I'm going to re-install windows and format the drive again. Then I'll update. If that doesn't work, into the basement with the computer, and back to the store with the hardrive (after completely erasing it with killdisk).

Thanks everyone for your suggestions.

Thanks again for all your suggestions. This is really strange!
I started from scratch and everything worked! I could do all the
Windows updates. The only clue was before, when I went into
power mgmt it showed settings for battery and plugged in (it's a desktop)
Now it shows only plugged in. I don't get it. Any ideas
Thanks,
Chuck
