inf virus

okay so i just had a weird phone call at my house
someone from india called saying that they were from my operating system provider
and that there was a virus sending info
they were calling to help us stop that
i didnt believe it from the beginning
so he had me open the run box and run
inf virus
it opened a window on my pc
then i hung up on them
what is the inf virus
it seems like they wanted me to infect my computer
as i read the command it read as: infect virus
i have NOD32 by ESET
if that virus really is on my PC how do i remove it
and what is it exactly
has anyone else had something similar to this?

windows vista and XP
nothing popped up
someone called me today
i was wondering if someone could tell me what it is

It might be a hoax. Run a full scan with your scanners and see if anything comes up.

I ran the command on both XP and 7. In XP, it opens the C:\Windows\Inf folder and in 7 it opens Windows Defender and does a quick scan.

what was that virus that would just hop from host to host on flash drives?
the more i keep going over it in my head
the more i think it might have been an attempt at identity theft
a scare tatic to make someone give their card info
then ridiculous charges would appear on the card

so what all is saved in the C:Windows/inf
file anyway?
does anyone know what its purpose is?
