Curious download pattern

On my cell phone I notice that for most of the downloads, the downloading speeds up tremendously (about ten times) when it's about halfway through which I can't account for.

Maybe it's caching elsewhere first?

I don't have Opera. Yesterday I paid my phone bill which (temporarily) took care of the throttling, BUT it made no difference to my phone speeding up on downloading (btw I'm on the 3G network).

To update the pattern occurred at a particular website which has stopped.

I can add that phones have quirks when it comes to downloading. E.g. my prior phone downloaded 23 videos at a website before it would only let me stream (one of the reasons why I regarded it as defective). My new phone can download from any website with the possible sole restriction of five downloads a day.
