Hi,

I have decided I am definitely going to buy a new laptop for gaming. This one at the moment cannot play team fortress 2 on lowest settings (around 1 fps in-game), integrated graphics etc.

I am using money I have saved from University, I have saved £3000 of which I plan to use around £1000 to spend on a laptop, is this enough? I heard spending more then this is worthless as laptops become outdated quickly anyway.

I found at university I got with the LAN-party crowd, feeling a bit left out as I have a computer that can't play many games.

I am hoping to play modern games i.e. guild wars 2, diablo 3, tribes ascend, dota 2, cs:go etc. on highest preferable, but not necessary i.e. I don't mind medium settings too much.

I have already looked (using google) and have came up with several options, I would like some help to decide what path I should go down :) ...

Alienware laptops - Pricy but good service? It seems like you need £1500+ to buy a good gaming laptop here.

MEDIONshop UK: MEDION® ERAZER® X6819 15.6" Laptop (MD97908)

The Elite Ultimate 2760 V2

Samsung 700G7A-S02UK 17.3" 3D 120Hz WLED TFT, Intel HM65 I7-2670QM 2.2GHz, 8GB DDR3, 2TB HDD, ATI HD 6970M 2GB GDDR5 Graphics, Win7 Home Premium 64-Bit - Black [NP700G7A-S02UK] - VERY pricy but really good specs.

I also looked at pcspecialist. They are very customisable etc.

Any others that may be useful looking at?

What I am REALLY worried about though is cooling system within laptop. At the LAN (goes on for like 2 days) my friend's laptop kept overheating every half hr and shutting down and he bought his like... 1 year ago. How can you tell if these will perform well in terms of not overheating. Is it mandantary to buy a laptop cooler?

Another thing to note I used http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/high_end_gpus.html for reference for processor / graphics hierarchy, is this a reliable source of info?

Any particular reason you want a laptop?

Portability is a big factor. I am a university student so I travel a bit. My room next yr in the house I'm in is the smallest in the house (next to no space for desktop) and I like to go to LAN parties at university, therefore laptops are definitely key imo. I understand this decision (i.e. double the price as a desktop for the same specs, being unable to upgrade parts like a desktop etc.) but in my situation desktops don't seem viable.

I've got an HP g7. Tickled to death with the thing. Does all that I want it to and has the horsepower to do a lot more. Runs as a desktop or a lappy. If you shop around you can find them for around $450.00usd.

Hi,

Thanks for the offer but at that low price, it doesn't seem like it would be possible to game with such a laptop :ermm:.

Ooh how wrong you are.

Cheap is not always bad.

EDIT: However, if you really want a gaming PC, you won't go wrong with this page: http://www.scan.co.uk/shop/computer-hardware/all/laptops-ultrabooks/gaming-laptops

EDIT2: http://www.scan.co.uk/products/156-...-ddr3-so-dimm-1tb-hdd-blu-ray-writer-win-7-hp

£1042, seems to be the best spec to your budget (well, just above)

Hi,

I just looked. It has ok specs but again this: MEDIONshop UK: MEDION® ERAZER® X6819 15.6" Laptop (MD97908) seems to have better processor / graphics for less price (... like £850). It doesn't seem to have an new-gen i7 processor either.
