Mixing 1GB RAM with 512 mb RAM

hi guys. i have a mobo that supports up to 2GB of ram and i have only 2 RAM slots . I recently bought from someone 1 GB of DDR1 400 mhz piece of RAM, that's part of a dual channel kit(Amazon.com: Kingston ValueRAM 2GB Kit (2x1GB Modules) 400MHz PC3200 DDR Desktop Memory (KVR400AK2/2GR): Electronics). I also have my 512 mb DDR1 400mhz that i want to stick it in so i'd have 1 GB in a slot + 512 in the other one .... Can i make it work, or the PC is likely to explode ?

It will work, but not in dual channel mode.

Thanks for the answer. i'm not sure what that means(not working in dual channel mode), but what you're saying is, my PC will have no problem recognizing 1,5 GB RAM when i have my 1 GB +512 mb ram in both slots and it will work properly ?

sorry for the double post : i tried mixing them up..it's a no go my pc with both memories is running slower than with only 1gb in , and keeps restarting by itself . Guess i found my answer.

Might be a faulty memory module.
