Just bought a new power on board for a hp g6 laptop as i thought this was the problem however it turns out that this has not fixed the issue.

The laptop simply wont power on. I plug it in and the charging light comes on but i hit the power button and nothing happens.

No obviously im looking at two components, the CPU (£45) on ebay or a new board (£135) from the states.

How can i tell which one is at fault here. I dont want to order a new board only for that not to work and i dont want to order a cpu and for that not to work.

Will a laptop even power on if the CPU is dead ? i know cpu's dont die often.

Just to clarify when i say not turning on i mean it does not even light up and the fans do not spin.

To be honest i have not actually checked that but the laptop charging light lit up and when battery was removed it also lit up to show power was getting to the machine.

I didn't check this as it once did work randomly and when it did it worked fine until it was powered off again.

Your battery might be the problem, try start the laptop with out battery....

Your battery most likely will have a short and is shutting down the psu.
