okay so here is my thought/idea
everyone browses the web, and at some point in time ends up in a shadey spot of the internet
so my brain kicked in
i have a linux box not doing anything right now
so
what if i had my linux box host a VM of maybe windows 7 or vista
and i could give it a static IP address
then remote desktop into it and surf as i want to
when the OS gets 'dirty'
i can just delete and install a new VM with the new IP address

so my question is this
this would keep all viruses from infecting any PC that is running the VM right?
since a VM is an OS inside a folder
the virus can only infect that OS inside the folder
and not migrate to the Host OS
correct?

Depending on which VM software you use, the virtual disk is usually stored as a file. Anything that happens to the guest OS will be independent of the host, meaning if the guest gets a virus, the host will not.

In VMWare, you can set the virtual hard disk to be nonpersistent. This means that anything done on the virtual machine will be lost when it is powered off. This is great for creating a sandbox for web surfing because every time the VM is restarted, it is reverted back to a particular point in time.
