So I took the plunge, upgrading from an old Athlon II X4 630 I bought for $99 in January of 2010.

Can't wait, haven't had a big upgrade in years.

Anybody else buy an Ivy Bridge? I can't imagine Sandy users are compelled since it's not a huge improvement over it.

It was hyped up like the FX was but was a bit of a let down to me. I was excepting better benchmarks over the sandy bridge. Though it is still a good chip and congrats on your buy

It's nothing to get excited over for Sandy Bridge users, that's for sure. It is however a massive jump for me.

I feel yeah there. Before i got my new computer in October, i was running a pentium 4 without 64 bit. that beast lasted me a while though

I have a sandy so I'm good for a long time. AKA 1 more year :p

The i-line is solid though and you'll enjoy it. Both of my i7's scream, the only reason I got the sandy is because I got a cheap price from an intel purchase program.

Out of curiosity, what board did you get to go with it?

OH, and welcome back :)

Built like a rock man you shouldn't have any problems with that build!
