External Drive FireWire Driver for Win7 & Vista?

I am sort of desperately seeking either a driver, or a firmware upgrade so my Windows 7 and Vista computers will recognize the external enclosures I just bought but are not recognized.
Is there perhaps some utility or "generic" driver or tool to enable my systems to see these FireWire devices?
The enclosure says, "3.5" External Sub-System Penguin Gear"
I have tried different ways of connecting (plugging in cold and turning on the enclosure, plugging in while the enclosure is already turned on, unplugging and re-plugging, and so on), but my systems just do not recognize these peripherals.
So I am hoping I didn't waste my money on these things (I have two), and have to start again searching for FireWire enclosures that are compatible with Windows.
Help! Anybody have any suggestions?
Does anyone know if this is a known Vista and Win7 issue?

Try changing your firewire driver. There're 3 drivers bundled in windows 7, change the driver to the one except Legacy.

Also check your bios settings to see if the firewire is enabled.
