I am trying to use a Linksys wrt54gs2 as a wireless card/ WAP to access a wireless network. My desktop does not have a wireless card so it would save me money if I can use the wrt54gs2 to connect to another router instead of buying a PCI wireless card.

So here is the topology of my network:

Cable modem> Linksys E1500 router> SSID broadcast

SSID broadcast> Desktop computer w/ built in wireless card
SSID broadcast> Laptop computer w/ built in wireless card
SSID broadcast> Printer w/ built in wireless card
SSID broadcast> wrt54gs2 router > Desktop computer

So I am wondering how I use the wrt54gs2 router as a Wireless Access Point to connect to the E1500 which is the primary router providing Internet broadcast.

Typically, that won't work. What you'd need is called a bridge. Some third party firmware like DD-WRT can sometimes add this.

You can save yourself all that grief if you just get a usb wireless adapter. Zoom has one that is b/g/n for 20 dollars. I have one.

You need to make a Wireless Bridge. This will plug into the PC with a cable and make it wireless so that it will then connect to a wireless signal.
