i have had belkin wireless router for a few years without much of a problem running xbox, ps3, iphone, laptops and a wired connection. i recently bought a new laptop running windows 7 (first time in house idk if that matters) and it would not connect to internet. it recognizes the router is there and rthat therfe is a 4 bar connection but when i try to connect it just says windows connot connect. thought was computer then tried iphone, nothing. computer, nothing. cycled router, modem, router again modem, modem and router. hours spent rewiring and nothing. wired from modem works fine, wired through router, works fine. borrowed another wirless belkin router figuring it had to be the router. same result in every aspect. friend came over pc tech in our it dept., tried all same did a strange power cycle to modem, unpluged and plugged repeatedly 3-4 times and plugged back in. bam theres a wifi signal my phone and laptop connect! he is no longer out of the driveway and its all back down again!
must be the modem then? i return modem to cable company and bring home new one register online works great hook up router bam nothing. borrow another wireless router netgear this time maybe belkin issue i think nothing works fine wired through router but no wifi on any device shows is there a 4 bar signal but no connection. called cable company again they just say they cant do anything about someone elses router and just say they read my router perfectly so its not them! i have recently noticed that my new router has a "link" light on the front of it that when hooked to router will flash and the "internet" light on the router flashes in exactly same sequence? i am at wits end with this i cant think of anything i might have over looked. help me obi wan your my only hope!

Right click 'My computer' Click 'Manage' Click 'Device manager'...look for network adapters and wireless and tell me what they are and do they have a yellow exclamation mark next to them.

As frustrating as these problems can be alot of times it's drivers for communications on the system and the router to connect to one another.

ty will try that, at work now. my tech friend did look at devices early on and didnt seem to notice any problEMS ALSO MY XBOX, PS3 And iphone have no connection and they dont have a device manager. also when i take my laptop to workl it connects immediatly.

i have replaced router twice and brand new modem and cables from cable co. cisco dcp3010 first 2 routers were belkin running a netgear wireless now (wired) as far as internal settings i have had 2 tech friends that work in the it dept of casino i work at look at it and all seemed fine to them i am not too nkowlegeable with the dos controls and software thats why i had them check it out it all seems head scratching to them as well. its as if something were emp'ing my wireless if that were possible. in device manager there are no error icons

First click in Start button >ncpa.cpl> Right Side Manage Adapter Setting>Enable Wifi Adapter then setting ur wifi

I have the same exact thing happening with my Lenovo ThinkPad SL500. My connection is enabled.

My wireless connections name is called Broadcom but in the network connections window the connection is listed as Unidentified network.

In the system settings I do not see any exclamation points anywhere.

Update...

OK The computer connects to the Internet using my Verizon mobile hotspot. When I check the information I see local and internet listed. But, when I check my cable modem and router connection I only see local.
