my vista laptop has a problem it was installing 3 of 3 updates dont turn your comp off then it turned itself off then booted up an started the 3 of 3 updates a gain then turned off again in a kind of loop an help to rectify will be most welcome
Once you find a proper PE, navigate to c:\Windows\winsxs\pending.xml Delete this file and restart your machine. Once that is done, it will run through the updates again and you should be fine.
