I just lost all faith in my state's government...

LA HB 195 - Louisiana Legislature - 2011 - Legislation - MyGov365

What. The. Hell.?

It requires:

-anybody who sells anything used to keep extensive records of all purchases, including personal information of the buyer

-a license must be obtained to sell anything for >$25

-All sales of used property must be reported

-minors are not allowed to sell anything at all (what the f**k?)

So basically, garage sales are now illegal in the state of Louisiana, as are any private transactions. I don't even know how to put into words how screwed up this is.

That is fairly messed up. I thought America was meant to be "land of the free" or whatever?

There used to be freedom in the west - Then there was healthy and safety, political correctness, social control, heavy taxation, and so on xD

It really feels like this type of thing has exploded over the last few years. Just right now, there are people protesting in the streets of major cities demanding socialism, our government is spending twice as much as it's earning with no end in sight, and our president is in campaign-mode instead of actually trying to help. I fear that this country will not hold up much longer if things don't change very soon.

Unfortunately wealth on a national scale requires capitalism. People have to think about why socialism and communism has steadily decreased over the years. And why countries like China under a communist government are used by big capitalist companies for cheap labour, and countries like japan (constitutional monarchy) have a thriving design and manufacturing industry (largly automotive: Honda, Kawasaki, Mazda)

I mean, yeah we need more financial equality, but we have to remember that the whole point of capitalist government is that there is a class system, or we'd have just adopted communism.

Oh, believe me, I agree. Socialism as an idea isn't too bad, but it really has no basis in reality.

I really don't understand why people think the federal government can take on even more responsibility. It's already proven itself completely incapable of handling even the most basic tasks, so why do we think it will do better when all of a sudden, it's in charge of healthcare, or education, or any of the other things people are calling for.

The problem is, the poor man is humble, but once he gets wealthy he becomes greedy. People always say hypothetically if they won the lottery they'd stay at work and stay humble, but those people have never won the lottery, for example. Even Communism works, in theory.

+1 for this. I've always been terrified of the idea of being stuck in an office job for 8 hours a day, 5 days a week, 51 weeks a year until I'm 70+. I really have no idea how anyone stays sane. It almost feels like being homeless would be a better option. At least I'd be able to enjoy life.
