my computer turns off by itself

while my computer is on, my computer turns off by itself. I think it's a virus or its the power supply. Will someone please tell me what could be the problem?

Windows 7 Professional 64-bit
Intel i7-980 CPU
Asus P6X58-E PRO
24 GB RAM

When it comes back on, does it give any error messages or dialogue boxes mentioning errors? if it shuts it's self down cold and doesn't mention an error when you turn it back on, it could be over-heating.

I've tried turning it on. It turns off and on, what can i do about this?

If you try to turn it on and it goes back to the same behavior, it's likely not a virus. You need to do a couple of things.

A) Stop trying to use it. You'll only damage it further
B) Buy another name brand power supply and try it out.

If you're still having problems with the more stable power supply, let us know.

Things to check are

-Power supply as advised above
-Is the CPU overheating? Check the CPU fan is working and the heatsink is connected correctly (Reseat if you can)
-Are there errors in the eventvwr? If yes its possible a system crash?
-Can you check the logs in your virus checker wether it found a virus at the time the system shutdown?
