BSOD: The Bane of my Existence

Okay, so I recently bought an hp p6631, and put an ATI HD 5770 in it (just for the heck of it right, you know xDD) and so it was runnign great for awhile, and a few months ago, it started BSODing, only it was around once every 2 weeks, now it is as frequent as once every 4 days. I run two monitors, and stream Starcraft 2 in 720p. I play sc2 on Low Graphics as well. My computer is never running more than 2 programs when it crashes, but it has just gotten to the point where I am tired of trying to ignore it. I am willing to give any details you need to try to help me Thank you all! GL HF

BSOD can be ALOT of things.
i will advise you to try a RAM diagnostic program. just to see if it could be the RAM.
what are you usally doing when it happens?

Thanks, I ran memtest86+ last night and it said it was not the memory, so after that I became confused. I am usually open in Starcraft 2 and Google Curome, which it runs fine usually, but like these rare times bluescreens. It isn't always when I have these open, sometimes it is just one or any other programs. Thank you for your response

no problem.
i am glad that it is not the RAM. software can always be fixed. it can still be some other hardware thoge, but most hardware BSOD is becouse of bad RAM.
troble shuting a bsod can be hard.


this might sound stupid, but try to update all your drivers. a computer can crash due to driver error.
userly it will just crash to disktop and restart the driver. but i have had videodriver problems that was fixed after a update.
it did not BSOD'ed but it resulted in a freeze. an i had to force restart the computer.

it could be overheating.
CPU overheating results in BSON (black screen of nothing) or BSOD.
is your CPU overheating?
is some other part in your system overheating?

HDD can also easily crash a computer.

i think that it is most likely software.
a windows reinstall will tell if it is software.


next time the bsod shows up then reed the error code.
it is something like 0x00024.
that code is very usefull.
if your computer restarts before you can reed it, then go to the bios. in there there should be an option to NOT automatik restart after a error under startup or breakdown happens.

I think I am just going to replace the old HP computer with this. I ran dxdiag, no driver issues, and I recently reinstalled windows. I am not sure how to see if the cpu is over heating, but it might be, as I only have the stock fans on everything. Thanks for your help What are your thougths on the build?

looks like a very nice computer.

personally i will rather get another motherboard.
i have also heard bad things about raidmax powersuplys. you sould tjek some reviews.
i will also get 2 haddrives and put them in raid0. harddrives today is the slowest part in your system and is dragging the hole systems performance down. when opening a music file it is mostly all up to the harddrive.
having raid really gives a improvement.

but other then that i really like the system. where is the video card.

I have an HD 5770 at home that I will use.
And about the HDD's, should I get a SSD and a Hard Disk Drive ( I can't remember if that is what they are called T.T I feel like a noob) or just two Hard Disk Drives? If I'm getting two I might just go for two 250 Gb ones too, as I really dont wann spend a lot of money haha. I currently have an Antex 600 watt power supply that I put in this HP computer, think I could just use that?
Also, how would I put the HDD's in Raid0? xD I am noob at this

nono. you are no noob. you are right, it is called SSD.
personally i will not get those at this time. problem is the cost for the space. if you buy 2 of 1TB harddrives it will cost you like 80 and you will have 2tb space (well only 1,8 because the 1tb in real life is more like 930GB).
but if you buy 1x 250gb SSD is more like 3x the price and 4x LOWER capacity. raid0 with 2x 7200rpm harddrives really does make a difference. enough for me to wait for a while to upgrade to SSD.
if you buy a Z68 motherboard you can use an SSD for Caching. if you really want your storage to be fast you buy both 2x 7200rpm harddrives in raid0 and a SSD for Caching. now thats speed.
if you dont know what i meen by Caching. go search "z68 SSD Caching" on google.

it might be good enough, i dont know. some low end (not saying your psu) PSU's that says it has like 600W, but when tested it only can go to like 550W or sommething. if it was not a good brand then i dont think that it is good enough.
but antec is i well known brand and has a reputaion to keep. soo... try it.

it is easy to set it in raid. just find a youtube video. it's no problem at all.

Thanks, I found a good Youtube video on the SSD caching, so now I understand what you were talking about. Would you recommend me getting two 250 Gb 7200 rpm hard drives then (not SSD, just regular) and putting them on Raid0?

Also I just realized you said you'd rather get a different moterboard, would any of these be better?

if i will recommend 2x 250gb harddrives in raid0.
hmm.... good question. i think it will give you a capacity at 460GB. is that enough space?
if so: do you allready have 1 of those 250gb harddrives and you want to buy one more so you can put it in raid0.
if yes: then i will say yes.
if not: no. then rather (if you want to safe money) get 2x 500gb HDD's. HDD's is not that expensive no more.
you can get 2x 250gb HDD's but getting 2x 500 is not that much more expensive and 406GB is just not enough space for most people.

about the motherboards. DONT get the first one. it is H67 chipset.
if you buy that then you can't overclock. and you can't get a SSD for caching. if you buy a P67 then you can overclock, but still can't use SSD for caching. some people dont need caching thoge.

5770 in crossfire will NOT bottle neck the sandybridge core i5. that CPU is VERY powerfull.
