I have an old computer I had to reformat and reinstall windows 98 (system will not support XP). Now the display resolution will only do 640 X 480. Does anyone know where I can find an up grade for the standard graphics adapter driver (vga) for windows 98?
I have searched the web with no luck.

Thanks

need to know what make the adapter is.
"Microsoft standard PCI graphics adapter (VGA)" date - 5-11-1998 is what the device manager shows.

It's a gateway GP6-350 computer. I have the gateway restore disk and a copy of windows 98 CD and used these to recover with. You would think the gateway restore disk would of had the updated driver on it as the display adapter was showing 1024 X 768 when I bought the computer new back in 1999 I think it was?

from what I can find its a NVidia Riva 128/128ZX.
Nvidia has drivers here you can try. just choose PCI or AGP.

hope that helps

That is the generic driver's name.

The restore discs generally have the drivers on them. Depending on how it's setup, some restore discs are used to directly install the OS with drivers and all like it was when it was bought new. Whatever the case may be, you need to install the driver to get the video adapter working correctly so you can get the correct resolution.

What ya still using a Windows 98 system for? Old games or something?

I'll be using these (3) computers in the sunday school rooms at church for games and word processing for the kids. They were the old system PC's

Windows 98...the great nostalgic times...I loved that OS, but now new stuff is coming along. Let e just tell you that there's little amount of updates for it, so if you use the net, you will be exposed to security risks.
