selling an iphone, would like a tech savvy person to help me with a question

Im selling my iphone either craigslist or newspaper ad. its an iphone 3g its in excellent condition had it 2 years. I have taken photos of myself to send my gf and the vice versa we are both in our late 20s and have careers and lives and I am still currently a college student and I do not want any photos of me leaked it would ruin me. Is there any way I can wipe or format my iphone so that noone, even people with powerful recovery programs can ever get my old photos and such. I deleted them but I know they aren't truly gone forever, are there any programs that stop recovery of photos? thanks

there could be a 'reset phone' option somewhere. my cheap ass phone has one, so I'm guessing an iPhone does

I Googled "iPhone hard reset" and found this.

but that says it won't remove or change anything. I guess about the best you can do is go through every corner of the phone and delete everything.
