upgrading...question about adapter, molex to 6 pin for graphics card, and CPU options

i am adding a Crossfire,Vissiontech FOC 512mb ATI 3870 to a matched FOC'd Vissiontech 3870 hd x2 1gb card..

i don't have an extra 6 pin for it but i do have a single Molex adapter to 6 pin.. i think it came with the board, but I'm not sure. it has 3 yellow wires and 3 black wires.

i also have the crossfire ribbon connector.

any opinions on this set up. if it needs a dual molex to 6 pin i can get one of those, but it looked like the extra molex was for the 8 pin.. but I'm not sure.

i cant afford to build a new computer, but i can put a quad x2 in it. i play multiplayer a lot, BF3 requires an e5700 core 2. but i can afford to upgrade the CPU. they don't hyper-thread, just looking.. the GPU later

any comments... opinions my Mobo can handle the Q9550

i have a core 2 e8500, there are core2Quads socket 775, i am getting to the limits of my CPU in newer games, i will soon be playing on lower settings.
