My Internet has stopped working

I took my Laptop upstairs this morning and was on it for about 2 hours then my Internet went off with a red x appearing on my connection toolbar. It was working fine when I used it downstairs it can't even find a connection now even though the internet green light is working on the modem.

Sounds like you're talking about a physical connection port? Or is this wifi? Try disabling the adapter and rebooting, then enable it again and try connecting. Need more info though to be of any real help.
