I am using an old computer with linux mint 11 (what ever the latest version is) and My display settings ie resolution compiz completely reset after I reboot and the only way I can seem to get compiz running again is by running "compiz --replace" and even that appears to just lock up but it gets effects running again but when I reboot everything resets back to no effects and 1680x1050 resolution.

To get compiz going everytime you boot you got go to the 'Startup Applications" and make a new start up with the command 'fusion-icon' and type all the other necessary description and name. That should get your compiz running everytime you boot with your compiz settings and that loaded.
